TIPS FOR THE HEATING SEASON
If you do not have a programmable thermostat

Set your thermostat at a comfortable setting (65-72) and leave it alone.  This method will cause your system to run solely on the heat pump.  When the temperature is set too low and the ambient air drops below your comfort level (ie. when you are sleeping or gone for the day) the electric heat kicks on when you bump the setting back up.  This occurs to make up the differential between actual temp and the desired temp.  The electric heat is expensive relative to the heat pump operation.  If it is necessary to adjust your thermostat try to avoid large temperature swings.
Reverse the direction of ceiling fan
We all know that warm air rises and  in the heating season we want to circulate the warm air down throughout the room.  To accomplish this fans should operate in a clockwise direction, viewing from below ( note if you are looking down onto the fan the orientation reverses).  This will pull a column of air up from under the fan which is then forced down around the outskirts of the blade turbulence.  Remember to reverse the operation to counter-clockwise when we return to the cooling season.
If you have a fireplace- While enjoying the warmth and ambience of a fire,  turn the fan switch on your thermostat to ON.  This will circulate the warmth from the fireplace to other rooms in the house.  It does not matter if the stat is in HEAT mode or OFF when you do this.
Also Remember
Change your return-air filters regularly,
Clear debris from the outdoor unit, and
If your electric bill seems excessive call for a check-up to ensure proper efficiency of your system. Stay warm this winter!

4 Reasons to Get an Electronic Air Cleaner

Are your allergies bothering you?  Are you worried that the air your family is breathing each day is clean enough?  Do you want to find a way to breathe easier at night?

An electronic air cleaner is a must-have for those who seek better quality of indoor air. It could turn out to be one of the best investments you make for your home. The air cleaner is an electronic device that cleans the air by removing contaminants and pollutants. It uses electrostatic charge to capture the unwanted elements in the air. These are then expelled from indoors through a purification process. Electronic air filters have several benefits.
Cleaner Indoor Atmosphere

No matter how frequent your household cleaning schedule is, you can always count on dust, dirt and allergens indoors. To back up your routine household cleaning, you can benefit from the services of an electronic air filter. It cleans the air thoroughly to get rid of pollutants indoors. It also captures lingering odors that are otherwise difficult to eliminate. This gives you a cleaner, fresher and more welcoming atmosphere in the house.

Reduced Allergies
Lots of air-borne allergens roam freely in the air around us. We are constantly exposed to a host of contaminants in the air we breathe. Dust mites, pollen, fungi, mold, bacteria and viruses are part and parcel of our indoor environment. This partly explains the frequent occurrence of allergies by many people. You may not be able to do much to control conditions outside. However, there is a lot you can do to enhance the quality of indoor air with an electronic air purifier. Install one and you are bound to see a marked reduction in allergies for your household.

Fewer Breathing Difficulties
The rise in respiratory illnesses has a lot to do with the increased pollution evident nowadays. It is not unusual for a family member to complain of breathing difficulties even when there seems to be no apparent cause. Although it may appear that indoor air is clean and safe, often times this is not the case. Contaminants occur in our indoor air virtually every day. Much of the indoor environmental pollution is connected to the household appliances we use. Emissions may occur from gas and electric installations. Pollutants arise from general household cleaning such as vacuuming. Fireplaces and even daily cooking also create pollutants. Bacteria and viruses inevitably find their way into the house. Some of these pollutants eventually cause breathing difficulties for some. An electronic air purifier is your best defense against breathing difficulties associated with poor quality of indoor air. It purifies the air of pollutants so that there are fewer cases of respiratory related complications.

Better Sleep
While it is true that poor sleeping patterns are caused by various factors, some are within our control. The quality of air indoors matters a lot in how well you sleep. Air that is stale, musty, heavily polluted or has lingering odors does not help in enabling better sleep. An electronic filter will help you improve on the quality of the air indoors. This will create a more conducive sleeping environment. Better sleep means better health.

WHAT TO DO TO GET YOUR HOME "ENERGY READY" FOR SUMMER

Before it gets too warm, it is time to make sure you are ready for Charleston's hot weather!  Check your home's heat and air-conditioning system.

First, change your filters in your heating/cooling system. Change them regularly - at least monthly.

Next change your thermostat over to "cool" and test the system by turning the temperature down. If the air conditioner does not turn on, first check to make sure no breakers are tripped. If you can't figure out the problem, call your heating and air conditioning repair person at Endless Air. Call early so you don't have to make an "emergency" call when the temperatures are soaring and we're too busy.

If your cooling system turns on, make sure it is putting out adequate cooling. If it's not, and you can't figure out the problem, call Endless Air. Make sure you set it at 78 degrees.

If your air conditioner needs replacement do it BEFORE the HOT WEATHER HITS because this is our busy season. And more than likely, some other things around your home need attention as well. Your air ducts may need testing for leaks and then sealed. Your attic insulation probably has compacted, so you need to add an additional 5 to 8 inches. Your windows and doors and other parts of the building envelope may need caulking and weather stripping. You need solar window film to keep out the heat.

Consider changing your old thermostat to a programmable one. You can save up to $100 a year by using a new Evolution thermostat system. If your thermostat is really old and uses a mercury switch (a glass tube filed with silvery substance) call your local public works department to find out how to dispose of this toxic material.

Consider installing a whole-house fan that uses cool air in the evening to cool the entire house and push hot air out of the attic area.

If you cover your air conditioners condenser unit (the part that is outside the house) for the winter, take off the cover and hose down the coils. Clear areas around the condenser unit so that it has full air flow.

Install ceiling fans or whole house fans to help reduce your need to use the air conditioner.

Take down the old storm windows, if you live in areas where you need them, and put up screens in their place.
We here at Endless Air hope that you have a great, safe, and cool summer.  If you have any questions please contact our HVAC specialists at 843-856-4477.

10 Reasons Your Business Should Be on The Web

1.      Brand awareness.  Get your business' name out there.  One of the great things about the internet is that it has leveled the playing field when it comes to competing with the big boys.  If people stumble across your website while looking for a HVAC company they will click on it and use your service.

2.      Establishes credibility.  A good website provides basic information such as address, hours, map, services, FAQ's, and contact information.  Make sure everything is up to date and easy to find.

3.      Don't kill trees.  To reduce costs, show your products over the web instead of printing brochures. More and more people are shopping on the web and comparing prices online.

4.      Testimonials are king.  Obtaining feedback from customers is easier on a website.  People have more time to write a comment on your website than sending one through the mail.

5.      Use Social Media.  Social Media outlets such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter will help get your brand out on the web, alert customers of promotions and sales, give helpful information, and let you reach out to your customers more easily.

6.      E-mail marketing.  E-mail marketing is made easy. There are services that help you send e-newsletters and other promotions using branded e-mails that match the look of your site.  With one click you can send your vendor letter to everyone and stop mailing letters with saves time and money.

7.      Lead generation.  A business website gives you another opportunity for data collection/lead generation.  Once you have an email address, you have another way to reach your potential customers.  Collecting e-mail addresses will be your new phone list and you will use it to get new clients.

8.      Advertising.  Think of it as a billboard on the 'Net. Instantly you have another chance to introduce people to your products and services and another way for people to find you.  Having great content on your site will help your customers find you so make sure to have good articles and information about your services and products.

9.      Instant contact.  After your customers finds your product or service, your website will allow them to contact you easily and quickly you via your channel of choice (email, phone or fax).

Having a website is expected and there to help the small business owner.  Make sure the website is informative, has good content, use Social Media outlets, and have fun with the site.  The return on your investment will be positive if you do this correctly.

Advice from Endless Air Inc.

Attack of the Ants!! Oh My!!

I just had the pleasure of speaking to Larry a new customer of ours on the phone today.  He called and scheduled a service call.  When our technician got out to the house he saw that ANTS were the main cause of the headache.  Larry's mother was worried she was going to have to go without AC on the hottest summer ever...but our technician came to the rescue!
Larry called me up after the work was done and thanked us for #1 answering his call #2 getting to his mother's house so quickly and  #3 solving the AC issue.  Your welcome Larry.  This is our business and what we love to do.  We take care of our neighbors even if they are on Folly Beach!!

Ants in AC:
According to a Georgia Power Company Engineer: ants love the "vibrations" let off by electrical wiring. - Who knew??!!
If you have an ant problem here is a natural remedy we found works: Use a mix of cinnamon and sugar. The ants will pick up the sugar, along with the cinnamon, and take it back to their queen. Ants cannot digest cinnamon and once the queen dies from not being able to digest the cinnamon the colony will die without her.  Mean but it works!
